ARRIVING BY BUS: There are 2 bus stations operating in Fes, CTM and Supratours. CTM timetable and prices are found on www.ctm.ma, it is not possible to book tickets online. You are best advised to book at the bus station before departure. CTM FEZ is in Atlas in the Ville Nouvelle and Fes -Boujloud on the outer route of the Fes medina North East of the Boujloud.
Supratours is part of the train station so is found on www.oncf.ma, where trains are unavailable, eg Chefchaoun to Fez, there will be information on the bus timetables. Again you cannot book online. Supratours FEZ is in the Ville Nouvelle next to the train station, Le Gare de Fes.
TO GET TO THE MEDINA FROM THE BUS OR TRAIN STATIONS: It is possible by petite taxi where you should insist the driver uses a meter although they don’t always. For getting to Dar Finn during the day the best place to ask the taxi to drop you is Ain Zleiten upper car park where you can find your way to Dar Finn via Tala Kbira, or ask a karossa to bring you there for 20/30dhs depending on your luggage, size of group. If it is late or early morning, you are best to be dropped at Bab Boujloud where you can access Dar Finn by walking down Tala Sghira.
We do advise you use our pick up service from the bus or train station for 100dhs up to 6 persons where we can meet you from the station; the driver will hold a sign with your name on it, and we will then arrange to meet you from the car and bring you and your luggage to the Dar.
ARRIVING BY TRAIN: there is only 1 train station at Fez and this is in the Ville Nouvelle, 10 mins from the medina. Information on the train times and prices are available on the web site, www.oncf.ma but again you cannot book tickets in advance. It is advisable to buy tickets a few days before you travel if wanting to travel 1st class as they often only allocate 1 coach to this. 2nd class there is usually always spaces. For petite taxis or us picking you up please see above.
TRAIN SCAMS: It is possible that when you are on the train to Fes you will be engaged in conversation by a very smartly dressed, charming Moroccan male. He will probably say that he has connections, if not family, working in the Moroccan tourist board. If you are from the US or UK, he will probably have himself studied there or have a member of his family study there. His English, Japanese, Spanish, Italian will be excellent and I am sure he will be a good conversationalist. Usually he would ask you where you are staying and try to arrange for a friend of his to take you around the medina. This is common, it is nothing to be alarmed at and some people are happy to accept this service and arrange to be picked up from Dar Finn. It is likely that the “guide” will want to take you to shops and a restaurant where he will earn a commission and be put out if you don’t oblige. So as long as you know what you are doing, it could offer you a great experience with Moroccans with a visit to their house and seeing much more of the culture than you would normally, or it could end up with both parties unhappy and leaving you feeling cheated. Please also note that most Moroccans who are travelling and talk to you are just being friendly to strangers in their country and want to make conversation and offer true Moroccan hospitality.
CAR SERVICES: Dar Finn can arrange a pick up from most destinations in Morocco with a private air conditioned car, prices are for up to 6 persons and reasonable luggage:
TRAIN/BUS STATION 100DHS one way.
AIRPORT 200DHS / 280DHS between 11.30pm and 6.00am one way
CASABLANCA AIRPORT 1560DHS OR 1920DHS (Eng Speaking driver)
TANGIER 1560 OR 2040 (Eng speaking driver)
CHEFCHAOUEN 1200 OR 1500 (Eng speaking driver)
MARRAKECH 2400DHS OR 2640DHS (Eng speaking driver)
If you choose this service, the price will be added to you bill at Dar Finn, there is no need to pay the driver directly.
We would recommend you use our service for arrival or departure at Fes airport, please note that if travel is between 11.30pm and 6.00am the price is 280dhs one way. If you wish to get to us independently, then there is a local bus that stops at the train station, I don’t have a timetable, which will take you to the Ville Nouvelle where you will then need to get a petite taxi to the Medina. Ask the taxi to drop you at Ain Zleiten upper car park where you can find your way to Dar Finn via Tala Kbira, or ask a karossa to bring you there for 20/30dhs depending on your luggage, size of group. If it is late or early morning, you are best to be dropped at Bab Boujloud where you can access Dar Finn by walking down Tala Sghira.
ARRIVING WITH A TOUR GROUP OR AGENT:
Please advise us of your time of arrival, and give the driver my telephone number directly, +212(0)655018975 so we can co ordinate a place of meeting.
ARRIVING BY CAR RENTAL: We have a company which we use for car rental in Fes for a drop off and return to Fes, it is possible to take the car to another city but will increase the price, ask for details. If you book your own car rental, you are best to drive to Ains Zliten car park on the North side of the medina (N 34° 03.880′ W 004° 58.890′), which is the nearest parking to our Riad and you can park your car here securely for 30dhs per night. Please note that when your turn off the outer road to Ain Zliten you take the right fork up hill to the upper parking area, there is parking if you continue straight but the one on the right is better for security. Here there are men with karossas (carts) who can bring you to Dar Finn with your bags for 20dhs.
