Craig and Julie Young are open about raising their Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, their Heisman-winning son

Thanks, people. What a damn trip it was from Pasadena California to Tuscaloosa Alabama to New York City to pick up the Heisman who knows Bryce Young best his parents and Craig and Julie Young were kind enough to show me to the house in Birmingham invite her son to talk about it. Okay, that’s obviously the Heisman trophy, um, super, super proud of it. It’s not everyone who has a *** Heisman trophy in their office. Craig and Julie Young relocated to Vestavia Hills from California to be closer to their Heisman winning son and until Bryce Young takes his next step. The coolest parents in the world love to talk about their family adventure, an adventure that began the day their son was born on July 25th, 2001. The name came with the name. I watched football on Monday night. The irony of that. And there’s a fucking linebacker from Green Bay named Bryce Pop. When did you know you could have some, I would have had the cloth soccer ball and I would drop it on top of his, I would just drop it in the crib, sometimes I drop it next to him and fall in his stomach, just throwing it around His plan is silly. And then one time he opened his hands and he caught it and stuff and he did the whole Tom Cruise thing when he jumped on the, oh my god he’s going to be an athlete. He is great. So I don’t know and I don’t know if that was just a *** reflex or like an involuntary one, but in my head like oh we have something here. He’s always had a damn good engine, right? You didn’t really have to push him. I think if anything he would either be trying too hard to the point of exhaustion. So no motivation has never been the key. It’s more, it’s more of a balance and kind of being good to yourself and managing your expectations. He seems like a damn loyal guy, you know, he kneels in the end zone and he, you know, does that, you know, before the ride starts and you know we see it on TV, but you know, that’s important for him. We as a f*cking family always pray before we eat, always pray before we go on the f*cking flight, always pray, you know, just different situations. I think he’s used to it, why, Obama, we thought Alabama was the best place for Bryce to be as a ***, as a *** student athlete, as a *** young man, and ultimately ** * as a football player for Goal to play in the NFL. And we felt like there couldn’t be any other place that could prepare it. What was your first impression of Coach Saban, like from the University of Alabama? I go to Coach Saban’s office, like Coach Saban, I’m, never mind, I’ve seen celebrities, I’ve seen people, and then I sit down, sit down and I sit down, he comes in and he has , you know where you sit down he has all these rings and he has all this stuff and he sits down and then i became like a damn little boy just a coward i didnt say like three words and i was just scared . This is Nick. Saban people on TV how overwhelming it was to hold that make sure you hold it Rick drop it. Yes. Yes no it was, it was, it was surreal like we couldn’t, it was one of, it was one of the best nights of our lives and his parents. How stunning is that? how do you stay humble My kid just won the Heisman trophy. I mean it still seems weird. It still seems like, wow, that’s oh yeah, that’s what he did. OK, that’s pretty cool. Yes. Yes it was, it was a fucking surreal moment. I mean are you nervous watching him wherever you sit? And are you surprised by some of the things he’s been doing for so long? He trained with basketball? He’s been playing football for almost as long. Some of the skills to stop, start, change direction to cross, he was a damn point guard to see things, to have peripheral vision, to have peripheral vision. Um, some of these things were developed based on his extensive basketball practice, what’s his favorite sport, football or basketball? I think his favorite sport because he’s a football player would be football, but I think his favorite sport that he watches and we spend more time on is basketball. You know you hear that buzz out there boy if it wasn’t for Bryce Young where would we be? I mean, is he going to listen to that rat poison now, or not at all? He knows it’s a bloody team sport, he knows he needs everyone, everyone has to do their job to be able to do it. Well what’s on Mom’s mind when you watch your pride and joy there it’s fun to watch ’til they try to hit him and then you’re kind of like you know it you focus on okay did he get up? How did he get up? is he ok Um, it’s not easy when you had the fucking chance to step back and take it all in and reflect on what you’re going through now. I try not to do this as often. I mean I just take every day for what it is mom will love him um i know him i know he will do great things whatever he tries this will always be our home and we have some amazing ones Memories and that was a bloody wonderful, wonderful chapter in our history. It was an absolute freaking pleasure to spend time with them and I thank them so much. Bryce going pro? Well, Craig says, look, that’s Bryce’s deal. Either way, look for some sort of announcement just ***back to you a few days after the ballgame
