A new father tragically died after being accidentally shot by his own dog during a Thanksgiving weekend hunting trip in Turkey.
The freak accident happened while Ozgur Gevrekoglu, 32, was following a game with his buddies at the Kizlan Plateau in Samsun province last weekend, Newsflash reported.
While the expedition was going smoothly, disaster struck as the hunter was packing his things for departure.
Gevrekoglu was reportedly putting his dog in the trunk of the car when his paw accidentally touched the trigger of the still-loaded shotgun, causing the gun to hit the sportsman at point-blank range.
The dog lover was subsequently taken to Alaçam State Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body was then transported to the state capital, Samsun, for an autopsy while an investigation is underway into the details of the man’s death, which took place just 10 days after he became a father.
It’s unclear which pup was responsible for the fatal backfire. Gevrekoglu has posted photos of himself with several dogs, including a recent one of the smiling outdoorsman holding up a row of dead birds with one hand and petting a dog with the other.

Some Turkish media claim that Gevrekoglu was actually murdered and the dog excuse was just a cover-up, Newsflash reported. So far, however, investigators have not found any evidence of third-party negligence.
In a similar fiasco in 2018, a New Mexico man was accidentally shot in the back by his dog during a rabbit hunt.
