While there is so much to see and do at theme parks, roller coasters are perhaps the most popular offering that park-goers are dying to experience. The rush of the wind in your face, the excitement of the drops, twists and turns, and the thrill of high speeds are feelings that are hard to compare. Unfortunately, these coasters can sometimes experience unexpected malfunctions that cause them to stop operating without notice.

This happened at Hersheypark theme park in Hershey, Pennsylvania, where theme park officials recently announced the closure of Candymonium, the tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster at Hersheypark. The park’s official website states that the fan-favorite attraction is temporarily closed. Some fans have noticed this unexpected closure since at least November 17th.

While Hersheypark officials did not specify the reason for the closure of the popular theme park attraction, they recently announced that maintenance crews had finally received the part needed to restart the popular roller coaster’s operations. Theme park officials said Candymonium will be cycling this weekend as part of the park’s safety protocols to ensure the coaster operates in accordance with all safety procedures needed for its reopening. However, Hersheypark officials did not share a specific date for the coaster’s reopening.

The announcement, shared on Twitter (@Hersheypark), reads:

We know Candymonium fans are excited for winter rides!
The required part has arrived allowing guests to see Candymonium cycling this weekend as part of our safety protocols in preparation for its opening.
We will post an update on the confirmed opening as soon as it becomes available.

Earlier this year, Hersheypark officials announced that Wildcat, another iconic roller coaster at the theme park, will be permanently closing in July. While the original announcement didn’t provide any details on what would happen to the beloved attraction, an exciting video released in November showed us that Wildcat would be receiving a “hybrid” treatment that would bring new life to the coaster before it reopens as Wildcat’s Revenge.” You can click here to read more about the coaster upgrade.
