Based in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, The Giant Co. will open its first store in Benner Township on December 16th, expanding its presence in the home state. The new 50,000 square foot store will be located at 2699 Benner Pike in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, announced the Ahold-Delhaize banner on Thursday.

“At The Giant Co., we are a neighborhood grocery store, but we are also members of the communities we serve,” John Ruane, interim president of The Giant Co., said in a statement. “The opening of our Benner Township Giant builds on our legacy of serving the State College community for more than 30 years, offering families convenience, dining solutions and savings to fit their lifestyles. Our new store, opening just in time for the holidays, reaffirms our commitment to fulfilling our purpose of connecting families to a better tomorrow.”

Thomas “Woody” Woodring, a 43-year-old food veteran, has been appointed general manager of the new store, which will hire more than 100 full- and part-time employees, the food retailer said in a statement.

As part of the opening ceremony, the first 200 customers will receive a reusable shopping bag filled with product samples and opening vouchers.

“We are excited to open our doors to the larger Bellefonte community, and just in time for the holiday season,” said Woodring. “Our new store will offer the very best of the Giant’s For Today’s Table brand, but most importantly, our customer promises – make shopping easier, inspire fresh ideas and create healthier communities. Our team is here to help and we will strive to create meaningful shopping experiences that help families gather around the table.”

The new store will offer essential groceries along with departments for meat and seafood, baked goods and flowers. Benner Township customers will find Giant’s signature Beer & Wine Eatery, as well as an on-site smoked meat and sushi hot food bar and gas station on site.

“We know that our customers put price first, and so do we,” Woodring said. “Giant Choice Rewards is a great way for customers to shop and save. It helps families supplement their money by offering hundreds of dollars in savings every week. Customers choose rewards that matter most to them, providing a simple and personalized shopping experience that saves time and money.”

The store offers easy pickup or delivery to Giant Direct.

Founded in 1923, The Giant Co. family of brands includes Giant, Martin’s, Giant Heirloom Market, Giant Direct and Martin’s Direct.
