Wreaths over America’s only PA station is in Delaware County

NEWTOWN SQUARE, PA – This year, Wreaths Across America’s annual Escort to Arlington parade will make a stop in Pennsylvania at Newtown Square.

The parade begins Saturday, December 10 in West Quoddy, Maine and ends Saturday, December 17 at Arlington National Cemetery.

This year’s route was recently announced, with the only Pennsylvania stop scheduled for the Delaware County Veterans Memorial in Newtown Square on Thursday, December 15 at 9 a.m.

“We are truly honored to welcome Wreaths Across America to the Delaware County Veterans Memorial,” said Ralph Galati, Delaware County Veterans Memorial Association board member, Air Force veteran and former prisoner of war. “As we are the only station in Pennsylvania, we encourage all parishioners to attend the memorial on the morning of December 15 to celebrate a very special event to salute wreaths across America.”

The Delaware County Veterans Memorial will host a patriotic ceremony, open to the public, that will include the wreath-laying ceremony, musical performances and moving remarks from local veterans.

Wreaths Across America will also have its mobile educational exhibit on site to educate local youth.

Attendees at this year’s Escort to Arlington include Gold Star Families – including American Gold Star Mothers Inc. National President Sarah Whitehouse Taylor – Blue Star Families, volunteers and veterans from many eras, and local veteran service organizations such as VFW, American Legion , Disabled American Veterans, VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary and more.

Members of the Patriot Guard Riders and Patriot Riders, as well as law enforcement agencies from departments in many states along the route, will escort to ensure safe transportation for all participants throughout the week.

The wreaths’ journey to Arlington has become a tradition in its own right, allowing locals along the route to share in the emotional and educational experience as the WAA convoy passes through their hometown.

The full route of Wreath’s Across America can be viewed here, with the convoy of over 55 vehicles traveling along the east coast, stopping at schools, memorials and other locations along the way to spread the word about the year-long mission to commemorate the fallen and honoring those who serve and their families, and instilling the value of freedom in the next generation.

“For me, the escort to Arlington is the culmination of another year of sharing the mission of remembering, honoring and teaching across the country. I say it every year, but it really is an experience of a lifetime,” said Karen Worcester, Executive Director, WAA. “The way the Mission and these families and veterans are welcomed into the communities, with flags waving and streets lined with children and grateful Americans, is something we always wished everyone could witness. This year, we hope supporters will again join us to safely line the streets and welcome the escort to their communities.
